Butterfly Week - Fast Card Friday

Ever look at cards online and think: WOW I really want to try to make that? I've been doing a lot of that lately. I've really enjoyed the process of taking that original idea and turning into something my own. Today's card came about that way. 

I saw a card online and thought I'd like to try to make it. So I grab some paper that was similar in color and gave it a shot.

I liked that one so much I through I'd try it in other colors. (Sorry for the rotten photos - it was reallllllllly late at night when I took them.)

Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper card

Today's card is made mostly from one Designer Series Paper pack with a few accentuating card stock colors thrown in.

Calypso Coral card stock
Whisper White card stock
Modern Label Punch
2 1/2" Circle Punch
1 3/4 Circle Punch
White ribbon
Antique Brads
Beautiful Butterflies Die
Big Shot
Corner rounder
Dimensionals

Upsy Daisy stamp set sentiment

• This is a tent style card - cut @ 4 1/4" x 11, folded at 5 1/2".
• All pieces are inked with Basic Black ink.
• The red banner piece is cut @ 2 3/4" x 5 1/4" with a notch out of the center bottom.
• Whisper White circle is punched from the 2 1/2" Circle Punch.
• Calypso Coral circle is punched from the 1 3/4" Circle Punch.
• White ribbon is cut with ends at an angel to mimic the angels on the red banner piece.
• Attach the ribbon to the back of the Whisper White circle and adhere to red banner piece with dimensionals.
• Run DSP through Big Shot using Beautiful Butterflies Die. 
• Attach Antique Brad to center of butterfly and attach butterfly with dimensionals.
• Cut strip of Calypso Coral 3/4" x 2 1/2" and notch ends.
• Stamp sentiment with Basic Gray ink on Whisper White.
• Punch out sentiment with Modern Label Punch and adhere to notched Calypso Coral.
• Attach to card across ribbon.
• Round bottom corners. I used a corner 1/2" corner rounder but I've listed the one that is available from Stampin' Up for you.

He Comes In Peace

Happy Hump Day! I'm looking forward to the weekend. Going to get to spend some time with my son! I sure do miss having him around. So thankful that schedules working out to get together.

This card reminds me of my son. He was  c r a z y  about aliens when he was little. So, in honor of my son ~

This is a standard A2 size card (5 /12 x 4 1/4).
This is a detailed card. Be sure to read through all the instructions before you start.

Pennant Builder Punch
1 3/4'" Circle Punch
White Craft Ink
Soft Suede Ink

Old Olive card stock

Take a piece of Old Olive card stock and punch out 2 owls. From the first owl trim off the feet. Using the second owl, cut a triangle starting on either side of the feet and continue into the body. Flip over the "footless" owl, rotate the owl so that the rounded portion is now on top. Attach the feet to what is now the bottom. Using the owl that you cut the triangle from, trim the ear area down into the body of the owl. These will be used for the antenna. Use the 2 circle that punched with the body and attach to the top of the antenna and then attach to the body. Grab some wiggle eyes as many or as few as you choose, and attach. Tombo glue is great for attaching these small parts.

Draw a half circle on the Whisper White paper. I did mine free hand but feel free to grab a small plate or use a circle cutter. Sponge the half circle with Soft Suede. Crinkle the sponged piece making sure to have a few deeper creases. Sponge those deeper creases. Adhere to the bottom of the card.

Attach your alien to the card with dimensonals.

Using the "comet" stamp from the Extreme Elements stamp set and white craft ink stamp 3 times randomly on the basic black background. Don't be afraid to stamp off the edge. This creates interest in your background.

While the craft ink is drying on the background, punch a circle from Calypso Coral card stock using the 1 3/4" punch. Lightly sponge Whisper White craft ink on the circle. Now, grab a pencil with a flat eraser on top. Tap the pencil eraser into the craft ink and stamp on the Calypso Coral circle to create craters. I also used the open end of the Sponge Daubers to create the large crater.

Once all the Whisper White craft ink is dry, attach the Calypso Coral circle with dimensionals to the Basic Black background. Take the white gel pen and make random dots and * . I also enhanced bits of the stamped "comet" to add dimension and interest.

While all the gel pen work is drying punch a flag with a scrap of Pacific Point card stock and the Pennant Builder Punch. Use the dotted background stamp from Extreme Elements and Whisper White craft ink to make the background. Use the stars from the same set and Basic Black and stamp on top.  Once all inks are dry glue the flag to a trimmed down tooth pick. Use a dimensional on the flag portion and Tombo glue on the pole portion and adhere to card.

Full Retirement List Revealed

Big Day Yesterday  

The list of retired items got longer. The accessories list was released yesterday. What does that mean? It means these items will not be in the new catalog June 1st. Some items are being removed altogether, like the whole Decor Elements line. Other items are getting a "face lift", like our Heat Gun.  To view the complete list of items to be retired, click on the button on the right. This will take you directly to my shop and the list.

A quick note to hopefully ward off any confusion. The Craft Stamp Pads, as of June 1st will be available in White or Black only. The Classic Stamp Pads are remaining but getting a "face lift" by getting a new firm foam pad. This change is to help get better ink coverage with less pressure and should provide longer life to your stamp pads over all. The only colors of Classic Stamp Pads that are going away are the “In Colors” for 2010 – 2012.

An additional important note is that with the new pads in the Classic Stamp Pads, comes a new ink formulation for 5 inks: Basic, Black, Basic Gray,  Marina Mist, Perfect Plum, Tempting Turquoise. The reformulation is also for the re-inkers of these 5 colors. Using the new formula on the old stamp pads is fine, however, Stampin’ Up! does not recommend using the old ink formula in the new firm foam pads.

I’m getting excited about what will be in the new catalog! I get a tiny sneak peak on May 1^st and then I get to see the whole thing on May 7^th. Sorry can’t tell you anything with that sneak peak even if you bribe me with chocolate … well… maybe with chocolate…. LOL
