Fast Card Friday - Summer Starfruit

One of our new "In Colors" is Summer Starfruit. It's an interesting color that works with many darker shades, which would be prefect for those difficult male oriented cards. However, today's card is light and summery and FAST.

Tip: I have a TERRIBLE time getting the notch in my banners centered and even. What I've done is made a template for myself using a piece of light weight cardboard and the Pennant punch. I punched a triangular pennant out and use the tip on my banner, mark the spot (on the back of my paper) and trim by hand. So much faster and much better results!

To make a card that looks like mine, you’ll need the following supplies. Remember, if you need any of these supplies, just click on the name of the item and it will take you directly to my shop.

Supplies:

Patio Party Designer Series paper (the piece with all the different patterns in stripes)
paper trimmer

Directions:

  • Card base is standard size
  • Using a paper trimmer, cut out the strips that are Summer Starfruit colors from the Patio Party DSP piece of paper that is all pattern strips.
  • Using Paper Snip scissors, notch out the banner end on the stripes and cut to desired length.
  • Run a piece of Whisper White card stock (4 x 5 1/4) through the Big Shot in the Fancy Fan embossing folder.
  • Adhere embossed piece to card base.
  • Using a scrap of Whisper White stamp "Live in the sunshine" from the Pursuit of Happiness set using Summer Starfruit ink, punch out with large oval punch.
  • Use the scalloped oval punch to punch out a Summer Starfruit mat.
  • Adhere stamping to mat.
  • To get your banners straight on the top: take a small strip of Whisper White, run a strip of Snail on it. Arrange and adhere banners onto the strip, lining the top edges of  the banners to the top edge of the strip.
  • Adhere banner strip to top left edge of embossed mat.
  • Adhere scalloped oval piece to embossed mat.

Kiss Technique

It's Technique Tuesday and we're going to talk about kissing today. NO, not that kind of kissing, the stamping kind of kissing.

Kissing Technique is where you take a solid image stamp. In this case the butterfly from the For All You Do stamp set. Ink up the stamp. Take a smaller another stamp, and here I'm using the small flower from the same set. Now "kiss" the two - or stamp the flower on to the butterfly. Then stamp the flower on scratch paper to remove the ink that you kissed off. Think of it as when you kiss your hubby after you've put on fresh lipstick and he has to wipe off the transferred lipstick. Same idea.

Now on to our card ~

Supplies:

Whisper White card stock - standard size card
1 1/2" Circle Punch
For All You Do stamp set *retiring 5/31/12
*if you need any supplies, just move your cursor over the item on the list and click straight to the item in my store.

All pieces are inked with Lucky Limeade ink, except Modern Label piece.
Berry Blossoms DSP mat is cut @ 5 1/4" x 4".
Lucky Limeade mat is cut @ 1 3/4" x 5 1/8".
Whisper White mat is cut @ 1 1/2" x 4 15/16".
Adhere according to photo.
Stamp butterfly in Lucky Limeade ink and kiss with small flower stamp.
Punch out butterflies with 1 1/4" Circle Punch.
Punch Lucky Limeade using a 1 1/2" Circle Punch. (this is what I had but you can use the 1 3/4" punch. That works too.)
Adhere butterflies on top of Lucky Limeade circles and adhere circles to Whisper White mat with dimensionals.
Stamp sentiment from set on Whisper White with Lucky Limeade ink.
Punch out with Modern Label Punch.
Adhere.

Pretty fast card with a colorful punch and a cool technique.

Fast Card in Wisteria Wonder

Today’s Fast Friday card was actually started on Tuesday. Now don’t shake your head saying “how can it be fast if you started it on Tuesday?” I only started it to show how to emboss an image and show a tip on an easy way to cut using the Framelits.

·         So with all of that out of the way let me explain how it all came together.
·         The card base is a normal size 8 ½ x 11 cut in half at the 5 ½ mark, folded at 4 ¼.
·         Cut 3 strips of Wisteria Wonder card stock 1 ¼ x 3; run through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polk-a-dots embossing folder.
·         Attach the Wisteria Wonder strips to the card with placement according to the photo.
·         Color in the image whatever way you choose. I water colored mine because I’m practicing the technique. But you color yours any way that you like.
·         Take the Label die cut with the image that is stamped on it and ink the edges with Wisteria Wonder.
·         Using Dimensionals attach the Label on top of the embossed strips.
·         Round corners of card and you’re done.

So for the next few days I'm going to post some projects made with items that you can STILL get in our Occasions Mini via my Stampin' Up! store. Hurry - the month is almost over and the sale ends April 30th.

Now for the Fast & Fun part.

Stamps:
Tools:
Paper
  • Whisper White cut @ 4 X 5 1/4
  • Calypso Coral cut at 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, folded @ 4 1/4 to make a traditional sized card with the fold at the top.

It took me longer to type this post than to make this card. LOL Obviously you can use whatever sentiment that works for you but wouldn't this be a nice card to receive when you're ill or going through a rough patch with a warm note inside. That's why I love stamping, I can create just what I need for any occasion with the recipient in mind. Personal and unique always makes the recipient feel special.
