More cards from October 2012

As promised here are a few more of the cards I made last fall.

This little gal is one of my favorites to use for Halloween cards. If you've read the blog for any time you'll see I pull her out each Halloween and try to find some new way to use her. She's from the Greeting Card Kids set from Stampin' Up! The paper is all Stampin' Up!: Polka Dot Parade and the green piece is from my stash.. The large purple scallop was punched out with the large scallop by Stampin' Up! and then run thru the Spiderweb embossing folder also by Stampin' Up! The yellow circle behind the scallop is So Saffron card stock and was embossed using the Square Lattice embossing folder. My little pumpkin sitting witch is colored with colored pencils, cut out and popped up on dimensionals. The scallop spider web is also popped up on demsionals.

This is the Halloween card I made for my oldest niece. She's crazy about her 2 cats so it seemed appropriate. The stamp is by Stampin' Up! - Frightening Feline, stamped in black StazOn. The image was then die cut using the Window Frames collection framelits by Stampin' Up! and then inked using Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight. The next layer was cut using the next size up of in the Window Frames collection and sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist in Perfect Pearl. The final die cut layer was cut from Hollow's Tooth & Scaring Bone designer paper by Stampin' Up!. The card base is black, embossed with the Fancy Fan embossing folder by Stampin' Up! and sprayed with Perfect Pearls Mist in Perfect Pearl.

My last card for today is another Halloween card. I only sent out a few this year. Like I said, life was a bit nuts at that time and card making got put on the back burner.

This card was created using a stamp by Inkadinkado and I believe it is called Haunted Chateau, although there is no name on the stamp. I picked this one up at either Hobby Lobby or Michael's. The image was stamped in black StazOn and inked with Wisteria Wonder around the edges. The glow around the "chateau" was created by inking with Pumpkin Pie ink and Daffodil Delight ink, both by Stampin' Up! It doesn't show up well in the photo but the moon, and the tree got a little bit of icy Stickles added to them as did the grave stones and the walkway. The black die cut piece was cut out of black glitter paper and cut with the largest framelit from the Labels Collection by Stampin' Up! The card base is purple paper from my stash and I used the stamp Wonderfully Worn  by Stampin' Up! in black.

BTW, today is my Daddy's 84th birthday! Happy Birthday Dad!!! I'll show you the silly card I made for him later this week.

Technique Tuesday - creating a sponging stencil

I needed a couple of Sympathy cards last week. These are the hardest cards for me to make. I can come up with stuff for men easier than ideas for sympathy cards. I'm never sure if the image conveys my feelings. I finally figured out that simple is better. I go with simple clean images and a simple message. This card says "With Sympathy" inside. That's it. It works.

To make a card that looks like mine, you’ll need the following supplies. Remember, if you need any of these supplies, just click on the name of the item and it will take you directly to my shop.

Supplies:

white ribbon
your choice of sentiments for the inside of the card

Directions:

  • Wisteria Wonder card base is standard size.
  • Whisper White mat is cat at 4 x 5 1/4.
  • Round corners of Whisper White card stock.
  • Select image from Bordering on Romance stamp set.
  • Stamp in center of Whisper White card stock using Stazon ink.
  • Using the Big Shot and the Apothecary labels framelits, choose the one that matched the image above. Cut the label using scrap paper.

Water color background

Happy Thursday!

Today's card is pretty fast, even if it doesn't look like it is. Get ready to break out the stamp pads and aqua painters.

Supplies:

Whisper White card stock
Calypso Coral stamp pad
Lucky Limeade stamp pad
Wisteria Wonder stamp pad
Island Indigo stamp pad

  • While waiting for the water colored piece to dry, punch one scalloped oval out of Basic Black.
  • Using the Island Indigo marker color in the "Thank You" portion of the Thank you message stamp in the Upsy Daisy stamp set.

Center Step Birthday Card

Today is a "landmark" birthday for my niece (the one that made the scrapbook pages here and is in my scrapbook page here. Don't worry Karin, I'm not gonna give your age away). She LOVES purple. so I had to make her a purple card to make dealing with turning another year older just a wee bit easier.

Side view that showing the steps at a different angel.

Here's a template to make the card yourself.

To make my card you need the following supplies. Remember, if you need any of these supplies, just click on the name of the item and it will take you directly to my shop.

Supplies:

For All You Do Stamp Set *retiring 5/31/12
Iridescent ribbon - craft shop

Cut Designer Series Paper (DSP) for sides 3 1/4" long by 1" wide.
Cut Whisper White butterflies using the Beautiful Wings embosslit and adhere according to photo.
Center mats:
Basic Black mat - cut @ 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" - emboss with Petals-a-plenty embossing folder.
Whisper White mat - cut @ 3" x 4"

  • The focal image is created using the color resist technique. A video on this is in the works.
  • Stamp flower and stem in 2 steps in Versamark ink.
  • Emboss with clear embossing powder.
  • Once embossing is set, stamp En Francais stamp in Basic Gray ink. Stamp lightly on scrap paper first to remove some ink. Then stamp on Whisper White mat, over the embossed flower.
  • Once ink is dry, rub a paper towel on the flower to remove the ink.
  • Take Wisteria Wonder ink and ink Whisper White mat, starting at edges and working your way inward. Ink should be heavier on the edges and not uniform.
  • Mount the newly inked mat on to the embossed Basic Black mat.
  • Use Sticky strip to adhere the Basic Black mat to the center of the card.
  •  Apply pearl to center of flower and rub Dazzling Detail on petals of flower.
  • Tie ribbon  along bottom edge.

Get out your supplies and try this style card - it's a lot of fun.

Scrapbooking with Wisteria Wonder

This is the last post for Wisteria Wonder Week. Hope you had fun with it. Now ....

Just a few quick pages using

The layouts are pretty straight forward. The mats are cut to hold 4 x 6 photos in landscape. The base butterfly is only only attached on the right side while the butterflies on top are attached completely. A small pearl is placed on top.

Here it is with actual photos on it!

Both of these papers are from the Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper. It is retiring, along with all of our Designer Series Paper.Visit my store to order yours before they're gone for good.

This is my niece on her wedding day with her dashing hubby. Aren't they cute.
The photos is 5 x 7. Matting is 1/4 larger on all sides.
The little journaling spot is the Modern Label with the top trimmed and inked with Wisteria Wonder.

Be sure to check back next Saturday for more Scrapbooking ideas.

Fast Card in Wisteria Wonder

Today’s Fast Friday card was actually started on Tuesday. Now don’t shake your head saying “how can it be fast if you started it on Tuesday?” I only started it to show how to emboss an image and show a tip on an easy way to cut using the Framelits.

·         So with all of that out of the way let me explain how it all came together.
·         The card base is a normal size 8 ½ x 11 cut in half at the 5 ½ mark, folded at 4 ¼.
·         Cut 3 strips of Wisteria Wonder card stock 1 ¼ x 3; run through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polk-a-dots embossing folder.
·         Attach the Wisteria Wonder strips to the card with placement according to the photo.
·         Color in the image whatever way you choose. I water colored mine because I’m practicing the technique. But you color yours any way that you like.
·         Take the Label die cut with the image that is stamped on it and ink the edges with Wisteria Wonder.
·         Using Dimensionals attach the Label on top of the embossed strips.
·         Round corners of card and you’re done.

Wisteria Wonder Box

Wisteria Wonder Week continues.

One day I was surfing Pinterest and I ran across a very cool project to make a box. The box looked useful, as most boxes do. It looked fast to put together - always a good thing. So I gave it a shot and this is what I came up with.

The base of the box is Wisteria Wonder.

Tools Needed:
Velcro

With long edge of paper against the top of the Simply Scored, score @ 4 3/4 and 6 1/4.
With short edge of paper against the top of the Simply Scored, score @ 1 1/4 and 7 1/4.
Where indicated in red on the guide below, cut score lines up to, but NOT THROUGH  the intersecting point to create a flap on each side.
Follow directions on guide below for fold directions and where to attach sticky strip. (If you need to see a larger version, just click on the photo.)

Cut up to the intersecting score line, but NOT THROUGH it. This creates your flaps.

See the flaps now. Then put sticky strip on the long flaps on the left.

I put a touch of snail on the short flaps to hold the long flaps on the right side in place while I work.
Then remove the red covering from the sticky strip. Adhere those flaps over the sides you created above.

Now you have a box to decorate!

Box Top

Take a piece of card stock measuring 5 1/2 x 6. With the short side against the Simply Scored, score @ 2 and again @ 3 1/2.
Crease the score lines.
Put sticky strip on the flap that you want to attach to the back of the box top.
Remove the red covering and adhere to the back of the box being sure to line up the edge of the top with the edge of the box.
Decorate the front flap if you wish. Put a small Velcro tab under the front flap and to the front of the box to keep box closed.

If you want to create a box like my Wisteria Wonder Box, here are the sized to cut the mats.

Box Front:
Whisper White: 5 3/4 X 4 1/4
Wisteria Wonder designer paper: 5 1/4 X 4

Box Top:
Whisper White: 1 3/4 X 5 3/4
Wisteria Wonder designer paper: 1 1/4 X 5 1/4

Have fun creating your own box.

Upsy Daisy in Wisteria Wonder

I was sooooooooooo sad to learn that the Upsy Daisy set would retire at the end of this catalog, May 31st. I had just gotten the set when the retirement list was released. So I've decided to showcase stamps that will be retiring. If you're want to check to see if that stamp set on your "wish list" will still be around June 1st, click on the "Retired" icon on the right to visit the list and my store.

Here's today's card:

  • Adhere to card base.

  • Stamp the sentiment from the Upsy Daisy set on a scrap of Whisper White.

  • Cut the Wisteria Wonder label down across the width of the label  from end to end (<------>).

  • Adhere the Wisteria Wonder label to the Whisper White label so that the edges of the Wisteria Wonder label show a bit.

  • Attach to card.

  • Use one of the butterflies to accent the flowers, adhering with glue.

Have fun with your supplies today and make something!

Tip Tuesday – Embossing

I’ve got 2 tips for you today. The first is for embossing and the second tip is for cutting with Stampin’ Up! Framelits.

Tip 1

Embossing Buddies are no longer available. The manufacturer doesn’t make them any longer. We’ll I’m gonna share a little trick I learned a loooooooooooong time ago – long before the invention of embossing buddies.
Back in the dark ages when I started stamping we didn’t have any of those “new fangled fancy toys” to help with embossing. I didn’t even own a heat gun when I started embossing, I used a toaster, but that’s a different story! Static electricity was around even then though and it would mess with your embossing powder sticking making it stick in odd places that you didn’t want. What to do?! We’ll we just took an old drier sheet – one that had been used – and rubbed it on the card stock. Took the static right out and you could emboss all pretty!

Gather used drier sheets and hide them in your craft area. Otherwise, your family will throw them away.

Rub the drier sheet on your card stock. Be sure to rub the entire.

Stamp image and pour on embossing powder.

This is the image with the left side still covered with embossing powder and the right side had been melted into the image already.

Entire image is embossed with no random areas of embossing powder.

  Tip 2

When using the Stampin’ Up! Framelits or any of the metal edged dies (think Nestablities) use a bit of painters tape to hold the paper and die in place. The tape will not pull up the paper or ink when removed, therefore not interfering with stamped and colored images.

Stamped image with Framelit adhered with painter's tape.

Here's our freshly embossed and cut image sitting on some Wisteria Wonder paper, in keeping with our Wisteria Wonder Week theme. The image is clean with no random embossed areas and the cut is even and centered.

We'll take this image and dress it up on Friday for our fast card.

The Labels Collection Framelits and the stamped image (Bordering on Romance - clear mount) have been carried over from the Occasions Mini. Stop by my shop to place your order.

Now, aren't you curious to try out these cool tips? What are you waiting for ... grab your supplies and make something.

Thank You notes for May

Wisteria Wonder Week ~
I challenge you to say that 5 times fast. (giggle) I thought it would be fun to showcase one of the "In Colors" for 2012/2013. I'd been thinking that Wisteria Wonder would be hard to work with, figuring that it was going to be very light. Boy was I wrong! It's got a deeper tone to it than I expected. I'm really enjoying experimenting with this shade.

I've been working on my May Thank You notes that will go out to my customers. I need to be a bit ahead of things since May is going to be busy busy busy here at the Inky Pinky Household. In keeping with this week's theme - here they are!

These cards are 3 inches square so the paper is cut at 6 X 3. Scored & folded at 3.
The Designers Series Paper in the scallop circle is from the Very Berry Collection, punched with the 2 3/4 scallop circle punch, inked on the edges with Wisteria Wonder ink. The stamped image is from the Easy Events stamp set. Image is stamped in black stazon ink, colored with Wisteria Wonder and Lucky Limeade all on Whisper White paper. The image was punched out with the 1 3/4 inch punch and adhered to the scalloped circle which was then adhered to the card base. A small pearl was placed in the center of each of the flowers and a scrap of 1/4 inch white ribbon was knotted and glued to the side of the scalloped circle.

Supplies:
Wisteria Wonder paper - 8 1/2 x 11
Whisper White paper - scrap
Designer Series Paper Berry Blossom
Black Stazon ink
Wisteria Wonder ink
In Color Markers 2012/2013 - Wisteria Wonder & Lucky Limeade
Basic Pearls
1/4 inch white ribbon
adhesive
sponge dauber

Today is the last day to order from the Occasions Mini. Items that will carry over from that offer are available by clicking here to see the Occasions Mini Carry Over List. I'm happy to see so many wonderful items that will continue to be available, like the Blossom Punch and the Adorning Accents Embossing Folders. Be sure to check out my store to order those items that you love but will not be carried over.

Locally here in Oklahoma we had quite a stormy night! It started raining around 9 PM and didn't stop until after 2 AM. Now that's not anything unusual, however we were getting over an 1 inch an hour! Lake Ponca rose over the banks in some areas around the lake complex. It is quite the sight to see after it being so low the last 2 years. Here's a couple of shots from over in the marina area.

Too wet still to do anything but craft - so join me  and get out your supplies and make something. ;)
